Act for the relief of settlers on public lands enacted
The act approved by the President provides that when a preemption homestead or timber culture claimant files a written relinquishment the land becomes open to settlement and entry. It details notices to claimants about cancellation fees and a 30 day window to enter, and allows settlers who have settled to record their claims under preemption laws with backdating to the date of settlement.

New York approves foreign bank capital tax on state banks
