Examinations to 60 Superintendents Eliminating Them

John's First Escape From Willow Creek Hill Incident
John Niemand and family with Mrs Perkins escaped a potential serious accident while descending Spencer path to Willow Creek hill. Their auto began to roll backward halfway up the hill and could not be stopped until in the ditch at the bottom. They soon recovered, the car was moved to the road and no one was hurt. Boot Legging Rep: Harrison and Faulkner Before Mayor
J R Harrison and Tom Faulkner faced Mayor Chamberlain last Wednesday on charges of selling intoxicating liquors. Harrison received a July 6 continuance while Faulkner's case went to trial to Friday. County Attorney Barnhart prosecuted with Jay Goble for the defense. Witnesses testified, chief among them John Burgit the complainant. Mrs. Faulkner testified Tom was in bed all day. The court found the defendants guilty and imposed a $75 fine.

Obituary for Helen Adams Richards Scott of Sturgis and Elgin
Helen M. Adams Richards Scott, born Syracuse New York August 23 1834, died aged 76 years 10 months 20 days after a paralytic stroke on April 2. A Clay County educator, wife of J G Richards and later John H Scott, she taught in Elvin Ti and Elgin IL, raised three sons, and was a faithful Episcopal church member. Funeral services by Rev H L Case were held June 15 at her son James G’s home in Sturgis with interment in Sturgis.

Thomas McQueen died Saturday evening at his home 1225 Riverside Avenue Sioux City from asthma after years of suffering. The funeral is expected in Sioux City Wednesday under the Odd Fellows, McQueen a longtime employer and veteran of the Civil War with service in Company A One Hundred Illinois Volunteer Infantry.
