Barge traffic halted near Mississippi River lock
Granite City crews worked to repair Lock 27 north of St. Louis after a protection cell split open during the drought, blocking passage and delaying about 60 tug boats and 400 barges. The breach exposed a section typically underwater, worsening a backlog of freight along the Mississippi River. Repairs could finish as soon as Thursday, officials said.
