Warm beating heart transplant trial reaches UCLA patient
Los Angeles based report follows 61 year old social worker Rob Evans from Apache Junction Arizona who received a warm beating heart at UCLA June 19 in a nationwide trial. The Organ Care System keeps donor blood flowing, improving organ condition and reducing ICU stays. Doctors, researchers and other centers see potential to expand donor pools and shorten recovery times. Evans five weeks after surgery walked up a hill and credits the fresh heart for improved function.
