Hicks Pleads Innocent In Death Row Hearing
Hicks, sentenced to death in 2000 for the 1997 shooting death of Dale Wagner at a Mount Vernon pawn shop, faces a Prisoner Review Board hearing amid claims by defense lawyer Charles Hoffman that only jailhouse informants and accomplices tie him to the crime. Prosecutor Gary Duncan argues witnesses misidentified a white suspect and notes Hicks’s brother drove the getaway car. Wagner pleaded for his life as four shots were fired. Wagner’s son Shane criticized a potential blanket commutation sought by Gov. Ryan as part of broader death row review.
