Perry County Road District No. 1 commissioner Darrell George warns the district may close if no tax money arrives today. County Treasurer Frank Mangin says $40,000 has been sent, with the check in the mail and due to arrive. The delay is blamed on Midwestern Services Ltd. and a state reeval of farmland, with officials debating accountability and possible in-house computer options.

Arson charges dropped in mayor case after key statements barred
Prosecutor Ron Eckiss dismissed arson charges against Anna Mayor Robert Ferrell and Paul Coffman after Circuit Judge George Oros ruled statements to insurance investigators inadmissible. The charged building was Ferrell’s, damaged by a fire started when Coffman’s pickup hit an oil heater. Grand jury indicted them earlier, but admissible evidence was found insufficient once the ruling barred the testimony.
