Abuses at Abu Ghraib peak on November 8 amid Iraqi violence

The worst abuses emerged during a November 8 spike in Iraqi violence as U S guards photographed inmates in naked or simulated sex acts and a hooded prisoner with wires. Spc Charles Graner Jr was seen in a photo with a cocked fist. Jurors heard that eight prisoners faced escalating mistreatment, including stamping and punching. The incident occurred during Ramadan as insurgents attacked Abu Ghraib and nearby bases.

Pentagon widens probe into Iraqi and Afghan prisoner deaths

The Army has criminal investigations into 37 detainee deaths since August 2002, spanning 33 cases with eight new cases since a prior count.
