Fire damages Herrin stores in downtown blaze
A major fire in Herrin damaged the Baldwin Piano and Organ Center at 200 S Park Ave, with smoke and water affecting nearby Jacobs Lane Jewelers. State investigators suspect a lamp cord caused the blaze, which confined to the showroom and a vacant second floor. Fire crews from multiple towns aided, detours on nearby streets, and the music center plans to reopen after repairs.
