U S Representative John Shimkus says the 12th District contest between Democrat Brad Harriman and Republican Jason Plummer will be hard fought as longtime incumbent Jerry Costello retires. He compares it to the 2002 redistricting fight, noting heavy fundraising and national attention.
The plan includes 100 million for I 57 upgrades from south of IL 146 to south of Old IL 13, 36 million for I 13 lanes near Carterville and Marion, 11.4 million for I 64 resurfacing, 1.4 million for RIDES maintenance in Williamson County, 3.3 million for a Williamson County Regional Airport terminal, and 30.1 million to widen US 45 from Eldorado to Illinois 142. The program expects 6.5 billion federal, 2.2 billion state, 1.2 billion Jobs Now funds, plus 454 million local, creating or sustaining about 120,000 jobs through FY 2018. Marion officials praise the plan as a major regional boost.
