Ryan says Far East trip will boost Illinois economy
Lt. Gov. George Ryan told the State Chamber of Commerce that Governor Thompson's Far East trade mission will pay off long term though immediate results are unlikely. He cited Illinois's Shenyang trade office as giving firms an edge, and noted plans to persuade businesses to locate in Illinois. The Export Council will aid exports for small and medium firms as unemployment and workers compensation laws may face reform.

Peoria Heights may become the state’s first municipality licensed to sell lottery tickets. Officials expect a 5 percent commission on sales and 1 percent of any prize over $1,000. The village sold about 200 Instant Game tickets so far and weighs promoting the program with water bill inserts.
