Lake of Egypt Fire Protection District Chief Kirby Crites said an elderly woman was rescued from a stalled car on South Market Street just north of Little Egypt Road by himself, Assistant Chief Frank Huffstutler, and three others. The car was left on the flooded road until waters recede. The spillway north of the lake was four feet deep, Illinois 148 closed from Old Route 13 to Little Grassy Road, and there were concerns the Crab Orchard dam near the Visitors Center might fail.
