Parrish Tornado Disaster Remains in Family Memory
Mary Crawford now Cockrum recalls the Parrish area tornado that struck eastern Franklin County 87 years ago, destroying the family farmhouse and farmstead. She describes the fear, the sheltering in a wood house, the farm family’s escape to the barn, and the townwide devastation, with relatives killed and the mine worker father bleeding on arrival.
