The Tri-State Tornado carved a 219 mile path across Southeast Missouri Southern Illinois and Southwest Indiana on March 18 1925 killing 695 people including 234 in Murphysboro and injuring more than 2000. It struck Ellington Missouri at 1 pm crossed into Illinois near Gorham killing 34 and later hit towns including Murphysboro De Soto Hurst Bush West Frankfort Parrish and Griffin before reaching Princeton Indiana.
