Reagan Calls Report Critical on Cuts Phony
President Reagan labeled a report that his budget target was $25 billion off as phony while meeting with Republican lawmakers to rally support for his economic plan. He later softened the charge, faulting differing assumptions and reaffirming faith in his program. Senate and House committees weighed deep cuts, with CBO suggesting higher costs than the administration forecast for 1982 and 1984, underscoring the dispute over balancing the budget.
