Judge says Illinois criminal code not as tough as touted
Circuit Judge William A. Lewis of Anna says Illinois criminal code changes cutting good time and early release have shortened jail terms for many offenders. He cites widespread early releases, a 1,700 crime total in Williamson County last year, and a high link to alcohol. He urges reform and notes crowding and facility underuse.
