The Early Bird Kiwanis Club of Carbondale launches a classroom safety program to teach children crime prevention. Kiwanis International backs the effort with 57 packets for teachers containing a guide and activity sheets for student lessons.
The Early Bird Kiwanis funded a second phase of the Safeguard Against Crime series with $325 for safety booklets on playing safe responding to strangers and at home safety. Revenue came mainly from Kiwanis Pancake Day and Peanut Day sales. The group earlier distributed free numbered key tags last year to aid returning lost keys while preserving owner anonymity.
A two part program on Marriage Dissolution and Divorce Pro Se will be held at 7 30 p m Thursday and March 14 at the Women's Center 408 W Freeman St Carbondale The group will cover How to Handle a Divorce and dissolution of Marriage ACHI offers childbirth classes at the Center continuing six Wednesdays at 7 30 p m for 45 per mother with text and membership The Center also hosts a talk by attorney Jan Susler on abortion midwifery fathers rights and birth control and an auto maintenance class was cancelled with a new session planned for summer.
American pianist Michael Ponti presents a concert at 8 p m in Shryock Auditorium SIU Carbondale featuring works by major composers including Scriabin He studied piano in Washington DC and has performed in leading European capitals SIU students may attend with a buffet prior to the show for 4 dollars Tickets are sold only at the Student Center Buffet times are 6 and 7 in the Old Main Room of the Student Center.
