Nursing home lease levy boosts Jackson County tax rate

Jackson County adds 11.5 cents per $100 valuation to fund the annual lease for the newly opened 100 bed nursing home addition raising the total county rate to 75.1 cents. The $170,000 lease cost and loss of about $170,000 in excess fees are reflected in the levy, with other income sources to offset the rent.

Bill sent to Ogilvie Consolidation clears towns in Illinois

Legislation to create urban townships and consolidate hundreds of small municipalities cleared the Senate and moved to Gov. Ogilvie for signature. The bill sets new county boundaries and requires townships to reach a $6 million assessed valuation, with November 1974 voter submission. Sen. Jack Knuepfer supported the measure only with reluctance and plans similar reform next year. TORRE TOUGH Joe Torre led the St. Louis Cardinals with 22 game winning hits in 1971.
