Rising Tensions in Dominican Republic Uprising Repressed
In San Francisco de Macoris a small civilian uprising was quelled by the junta with at least 16 killed and 30 captured. Rebels and the junta clash over significance, accusing each other of nationalist or communist aims during a fragile ceasefire. Brig Gen Antonio Imbert Barreras leads the junta.
