Madigan Sees Budget Battle With Gov Blagojevich
In an exclusive interview after the Illinois House adjourned, Speaker Michael Madigan outlines why he opposes Gov. Blagojevichs budget plan. He argues for fiscal restraint, warns against borrowing beyond available revenue, and defends the legislatures influence over state government amid a stalled 54 billion budget talks. He cites education funding differences, road fund diversions, Vandalia and Thomson centers, and opposition to a temporary income tax hike without a solid repayment plan.
