Former Marion man sees unprecedented wildfire near home

Bush consoles evacuees amid vast Arizona wildfire

President Bush visited Seeley Flat school turned mass shelter in Show Low Arizona as one of the West's worst wildfires raged. He declared the area a disaster, offered aid, and praised evacuees while surveying devastated mountain communities. Governor signs early retirement law for state workers

Gov George Ryan signed an early retirement incentive into law, aiming to balance the 2003 budget. The State Employees Retirement System says over 20,000 workers are eligible, with about 7,000 likely to retire and roughly half of their positions left unfilled as part of budget cuts.
