Murder planned weeks before Herrin man’s death in court

In Williamson County Court on Monday a preliminary hearing heard that the murder of Charles R. James, 73, was planned at least two weeks in advance. Cindy Stearns, 51, Kate Bodie, 35, and Joshua Dallacosta, 15, face first degree murder charges in the May 24 death and the shooting of James’ girlfriend. Detective Scott Stefan testified after interviews with Stearns and Bodie.

Franklin County deputy cited for DUI

Franklin County deputy Steven W. Overturf was cited for DUI and reckless driving after a Friday off duty incident at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park. He declined a field sobriety test, was taken into custody, bonded out, and placed on paid suspension while the investigation proceeds.

A 22 year old Du Quoin firefighter Corey Shaw who died in the line of duty is set for a visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. at Du Quoin Middle School. Shaw perished Friday while battling a fire in Pinckneyville drawing mourning across Perry County and Southern Illinois.
