Blagojevich signs laws raising roughly two billion in revenue
Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed new laws aimed at closing a five billion dollar deficit by raising about two point two billion in taxes and fees. The measures increase taxes on riverboat casinos, trucking, and out of state gas users while funding education public safety and health care. He also moves to lease sell the James R Thompson Center and auction a state casino license as part of broader spending and borrowing plans. Government cuts are expected to total about one point four billion with more signing anticipated during a northern Illinois tour.

Two year old dies after fall from third floor window
In Chicago, two year old Yalin Hernandez died after bouncing on a bed and plunging from a third floor window. Her father Jose Hernandez questioned why such a small child was taken as his wife Yadira Nunez and relatives mourned. She was treated at Mt Sinai Hospital then Children's Memorial Hospital before the death was confirmed.
