Summer School Starts Monday in Murphysboro
The Murphysboro Unit School District opens its free elementary summer program Monday. First through third graders register at 8:30 a.m. at Lincoln School, fourth through sixth at Longfellow School, and seventh graders at Carruthers Junior High at 7:30 a.m. Classes run 8:30 to 11:50 at Longfellow and Lincoln, and 7:30 to 10:30 at the junior high.

Four Area Inquests Set in Southern Illinois
In Murphysboro David W. Modglin 20 died June 7 after touching an exposed electrical wire in wet grass at 427 Lucier St. Inquests into the deaths of Dwight E. Henderson 37 of Carbonale and Brenda West and Mrs Kevin Mullert of De Soto will be held Thursday night in Carbondale City Hall. Four area persons will be held Wednesday and Thursday. An inquest into Modglin’s electrocution will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Jack County courthouse.

Inquest Dates Set After Rt 13 and Rt 51 Auto Crashes
An accident on Rt 13 May 29 led to an inquest at 7 30 p.m. Miss West aged 24 and Mrs Mullert aged 23 died when their car collided with a truck on Rt 51 June 8. Inquests will be at 7 30 p.m.

Car PainT Removed From Robert Loy’s 1965 Car
Robert Loy of 609 E College St Carbondale reported damage to his 1965 car with paint scraped from door panels and the hood in Carbondale. Police investigated as vandalism after the incident targeted the vehicle.

House Burns Near Zeigler in Four-Room Frame Home
A four room frame house about half a mile west of Zeigler was destroyed by fire Friday night. Zeigler firemen arrived at 6:45 p.m. to find the roof and front wall collapsed and the entire structure ablaze. One occupant’s name was not learned but was reportedly unharmed as Christopher firemen assisted until Zeigler units returned for more water.
