Pinckneyville vows to fight fires despite hydrant obstacle
Fire Chief Jerry Smith and Commissioner Fred Pabst told the Pinckneyville city council the hydrant system needs work with 18 missing or unaccounted for and 23 with insufficient flow. Nine hydrants must be replaced, while some only need repairs or full replacement. The issues affect the ISO rating and residents' insurance costs. City plans a long range fix with three hydrants on hand and gradual improvements. The council also approved Perry County dispatch services for two years at 35 000 annually, saving about 70 000 yearly.
