Mental health budget cut shocks Illinois official
Mental Health Department Director LeRoy Levitt said the Senate Appropriations Committee cut Gov. Walker’s fiscal 1977 request by 12 million to 382 million. The reduction includes nearly 8 million needed for a 10,000-employee union wage settlement, risking layoffs or salary cuts and potential protests.
