Illinois leader Nelson to head Northern Illinois University
Richard J. Nelson, longtime Illinois civil rights advocate and Inland Steel executive, will become president of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb Aug 1. A 1938 Champaign picket participant, he later helped pass the Illinois Fair Employment Act and backed academic freedom initiatives.
