Ampegns to Open NCAA Tennis Tourney at Carbondale
Felix Ampegn and Mel Ampegn of Southern Illinois University will start the 91st NCAA tennis championships in Carbondale Monday. Felix faces David Sherbeck of Utah, with winner meeting Joaquim Rasgado of Miami in the second round. Mel opens against Harold Benson of Air Force. The Ampegns team with Georgia Southern in doubles after their top pair Mel and Gary Staines, seeded 17th, withdrew due to Staines’ summer job.
