Prosecution seeks to halt drain from Ryan campaign fund
Federal prosecutors seek a court order to stop cash leakage from Gov. George Ryan's campaign fund amid racketeering charges. Judge Pallmeyer warned Alzheimer & Gray to guarantee 1 million for restitution or face a bond. The case ties to Citizens for Ryan and ex-manager Scott Fawell over misused state money in the 1998 race and earlier elections. The operation traces to the four year Safe Road probe begun with bribery disclosures in driver license deals. Ryan himself faces no charges though 170000 in bribe money has been linked to his fund.
