Pay hikes not first cut says SIU leader at board
Southern Illinois University Carbondale president Warren Brandt told the SIU Board of Trustees that proposed pay raises should not be the first casualty if the university faces a 6 percent budget reduction. He warned cuts to salaries could trigger broad tax-like effects while board chair Ivan Elliott Jr. urged caution amid Governor Walker's call for a 6 percent cut.
