Jury deadlock spares Nichols death penalty
Oklahoma City bombing conspirator Terry Nichols again avoids death by jurors deadlocking on 161 state murder counts after a three day sentencing phase. Judge Steven Taylor scheduled Aug. 9 for sentencing to life in prison with prosecutors failing to secure a death verdict. The April 19, 1995 bombing killed 168 and wounded 500. Nichols previously faced federal and state trials with mixed outcomes.
