Amber Gibbs an 11 year old sixth grader at Murphysboro Middle School remains in good condition at St Louis Children's Hospital after a May 13 brain tumor removal. A fund at Union Planters Bank Murphysboro supports the Gibbs family along with donations of nonperishable food and cards to Amber.

A Saturday morning wreck at East Kimmel and South Sixth streets in Elkville involved a pickup driven by 19 year old Matthew Summers of Du Quoin failing to yield and a UPS truck driven by Gregory C. Holthaus of Carterville. Summers received a citation for failure to yield.
