Parole decision looms in Scott prison term reduction

US Parole Commission weighs shortening former Illinois Attorney General William J. Scott's one year and a day sentence for income tax fraud. Scott, 55, began serving March 8 at a Pleasanton California federal prison near San Francisco. His May 27 parole hearing yielded recommendations but no final decision. If not granted, he faces a minimum 10 months with good time and work credits. Scott is in a campus-like minimum security unit housing 419 inmates on an 80 acre farm. His cell is a 10 by 7 foot concrete room with bunk bed and a small window.

In Rossville, about 100 homes and a 63 resident nursing home were evacuated. Gov. Carlin declared a disaster in five counties as rains lingered and waters receded by nightfall amid tornado reports in Arkansas and Ohio.
