Energy High-sulfur coal plant gets ready
CHAMPAIGN CHAMPAIGN RP A key phase begins next week in the 22 million conversion of the old University of Illinois power plant to a model for clean burning of high sulfur coal. The jet bubbling reactor scrubber will be assembled at Abbott Power Plant by Chiyoda International Corp of Seattle. The project aims to show high sulfur Illinois coal can be burned in the state and save the university 4000000 a month versus natural gas.

Court grants stay delaying Three Mile Island restart
The 3d U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously blocked the Nuclear Regulatory Commission restart of Unit 1 at Three Mile Island, delaying a Tuesday return. A June 27 hearing will address whether plant managers are fit to run the reactor safely as state officials and opponents push for more study. Governor Thornburgh said the aim is safe operation if possible.

Two Extremely Minor Radioactive Gas Leaks At Byron Plant
At the Byron nuclear plant near Rockford two extremely minor radioactive gas leaks occurred May 28 and June 4. No injuries or health risks were reported though several workers were exposed briefly.
