Rural orchestras spark a national cultural boom
Chicago AP reports small town orchestras from Walla Walla Washington to Keweenaw Michigan and more than 600 others are thriving amid new interest in the arts. Ralph Black of the American Symphony Orchestra League calls this a widespread movement as communities rally behind local groups with marketing drives and local business support helping sustain budgets and prevent deficits.

Walton Ill AP A Chicago taxidermist offered 225 dollars for the head and hide of Buford the Brute, but Dean Considine refused. The 32 year old iron worker moved his family to Bison Acres in 1974 and has since added five buffalo including Buford. He notes Buford’s temper softened over three years, now a gentle one ton companion who even munches grass at the fence while they discuss life on the prairie and future calves.

Crumb Faces Cash Crunch From Back Taxes in California
Yolo County artist Robert Crumb creator of Fritz the Cat and Keep On Truckin says he owes the IRS more than 25000 in back taxes. He sold his secluded Yolo County home and offered his possessions for 35000 to raise funds but has received little response. He blames unpaid earnings from his controversial cartoons and numerous copyright settlements for the financial strain.
