South Farm Leaders Fear Kennedy Plan Aims at Livestock
Ovid A. Martin reports from Washington that Southern congressmen and farm leaders fear the Kennedy administration’s omnibus farm bill will curb expansion in beef cattle dairy cows and poultry. The plan would authorize programs to control supplies and production of cattle hogs poultry eggs and other farm commodities with quotas based on past 10 year production, potentially shifting growth away from traditional crops toward livestock. The South touts grassland pastures and year round grazing as advantages over northern states.
