Chester wins grant for Segar Park welcome center
City of Chester secures a 385620 grant from Illinois Department of Transportation Enhancements to fund a Segar Park welcome center with about 96000 in city funds. Mayor Marty Bert announced after Rep. Dan Reitz notified the city of the award, aiming to boost regional tourism following positive feedback from a Sparta World Shooting event. City officials cite bridge traffic and tourism info as benefits, matching plans with the chamber of commerce. An $800 Southwestern Illinois Tourism Bureau membership was approved, and city hall door locks up to 1000 were authorized.
