Carbondale Vacation Bible Schools Open Monday

Carbondale churches schedule Vacation Bible Schools starting Monday morning. Grace Methodist begins at 9 a m and runs two weeks. First Methodist starts 9 a m for two weeks. University Baptist Vecilion Bible School parade and registration at 9 a m Saturday. Sessions start Monday 8:30 a m and close June 21.

Grace Church School Plans Vacation Bible School

Grace Methodist in Car will host Daily Vacation Bible School through June 21 from 8 30 a m to 11 a m each weekday. Classes cater to children in kindergarten through 6th grade. Superintendent is Mrs Lorena Williams with assistant Mrs Joyce Gof finer. Reverend Milton Connett serves as pastor.

Savior Lutheran Plans Vacation Bible School and Confirmation

Savior Lutheran Church in Carbondale will hold a two week Vacation Bible School starting Monday at 9 a.m. in the church basement auditorium. A junior catechumen class will be received by confirmation during the Sunday morning worship. Sunday School and Bible Class begin at 9 30 a.m. Divine Service at 10 30 a.m.

University Baptist Bible School Parade Planned in Carbondale

More than 200 children are expected at the Vacation Bible School Parade at University Baptist Church in Carbondale. Pastor George M. Slayton says registration starts at 9 a.m. with a parade through residential streets, followed by Sno Cones. The two week program runs Monday to Friday 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. for ages 3 to 16.

New Pastor Rev Black Joins Creal Springs Church

The Rev. Black, 29, native of Zenia, becomes pastor of Creal Springs Methodist Church. He is married with three children and comes from West Frankfort. He served in Nevada California and past roles near East St. Louis and Sacramento. The family was greeted with a grocery welcome and he will speak Wednesday night at the Assembly of God Church.

Vacation Bible School in Carterville This June

The Church of the Nazarene in Carterville will host a Vacation Bible School from June 10 to 21. Classes start at 5 p.m. each day for children in early to intermediate grades. Mrs. Paul Wankel, wife of the pastor, announced.

Rev James Havens to Speak at Johnston City Church

The Rev James Havens will be guest speaker at morning worship at Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Johnston City Sunday. He has led Christian Education in Illinois since 1952 and previously served as pastor in Emmett Idaho and with the American Home Mission Society. He was Idaho Baptist Convention president for two years and a two year member of the Council of Missionary Cooperation.

Vacation Church School at First Methodist Church Carbondale begins Monday and runs through June 21 with daily sessions 9 to 11 a m except weekends. Nursery through Junior High songs stories tours fellowship and music featured under director Mrs Paul M Hoffman assisted by 28 teachers. Final session includes open house and picnic for families and staff.

Murphysboro Lutherans Set June Goal in LWA Drive

First Lutheran Church Murphysboro joins 10 000 National Lutheran Council churches to raise 3 400 000 for Lutheran World Action. Two thirds funds go overseas via Lutheran World Federation, a 52 million member body. The drive supports mis sion fields and refugee aid behind the Iron Curtain. First Lutheran’s share is 417 dollars to be raised in June.

Missionary Arnold Schneider to Speak at Chester Church

The Rev. Arnold W. Schneider, a Brazilian missionary, will speak at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chester on Sunday. He is married to Edna Housemann of Baldwin and serves in southern Brazil.

Carbondale Woman Earns Divinity Degree at Vanderbilt

Miss Julia Jean Tucker of Carbondale received a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School Nashville Tennessee. She will serve as director of the Wesley Foundations in Emporia Kansas for the Kansas State Teachers College College of Emporia and School of Nursing. She is daughter of Prof and Mrs L R Tucker.

Wesley Guild Meeting Led by Mrs. Wilma Riley

Mrs. Wilma Riley, newly elected president of Johnston City First Methodist Church Wesleyan Service Guild, led the Monday night meeting in the church social room. Church night, sponsored by the Guild and the Women's Society of Christian Service, was announced. Guild Weekend at McKendree College in Lebanon is set for August 9 to 11. Graduating seniors active in the Student Christian Foundation at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will be honored at a farewell picnic Sunday at Carbondale City Park. A vespers service follows, with 5:30 p.m. departure from the Foundation building 907 S Illinois Ave. Transportation will be provided.
