Soldier protests Tomb guard must go to Vietnam
Army Secretary Stanley R. Resor ruled that Staff Sergeant Michael Sanders, a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, is physically fit for duty and will be sent to Vietnam after an inquiry into his claim of criticizing U.S. policy. Sanders, from Kentucky, has hearing loss and asthma but was deemed able to perform infantry duties in Vietnam with medical care available. The decision followed examinations at Walter Reed Army Hospital and emphasized the assignment is not punitive.
