In Crestline Ohio three people died today at a downtown tavern as Bechel Asher 35 killed his wife Geraldine Asher 28 who had filed for divorce, then shot C Walter Fisher 43 at the bar before turning the gun on himself. Police said one stray bullet hit Fisher.

Texan Wins British Amateur Golf Championship

Joe Conrad of San Antonio Texas defeated Alan Slater of London 3 and 2 to win the British amateur championship in Ames England. The final under rain wind and lightning saw Conrad, on leave from the U S Air Force, surge after lunch to a final margin of 3 and 2 and become the first Texan crowned in the event.

Lobbying Costs Hit Record For Three Months

Seven groups spent over 25000 each on lobbying in the first quarter, with reports filed to the House clerk. Father and Sons Admit Looting in South Side Store

Chicago police arrested John Peterson 41 and his sons John 16 Walter 15 after they admitted burglary of a South Side grocery store on May 23 and looting the same store. The family returned in their wagon to load cigarettes food and other items worth 500 and the father admitted taking 35 from the cash register.

Two More Die In Carbondale Crash Near Downtown

Two Southern Illinois University sophomores were killed and two other students seriously hurt in a head on collision near downtown Carbondale early Saturday. Hindman of Herrin and Fox of Zeigler died on arrival at Doctors Hospital while Jansen of Breese and Neimeyer of Breese were in serious condition. The crash occurred about 12 40 a m in front of the Croslin Hobby Craft shop at 701 South Illinois Avenue. Police identified Fox as northbound driver and Jansen as southbound driver. Hindman’s funeral is set for 2 p m Monday in Herrin First Baptist Church. Fox’s funeral is Monday at 2 p m in Zeigler First Methodist Church.

Nash Hudson layoffs cut 3400 at AMC Wisconsin plants

American Motors Corp announces a downward production adjustment cutting 3400 jobs at its two Wisconsin plants, 1800 in Kenosha assembly and 1600 in Milwaukee body, a 20 percent reduction. The layoff begins next Tuesday with no end date given while plastics and El Segundo plants remain unaffected. Production after cuts set at 650 cars per day, up from a reported 380 annually.
