Wisconsin bees pollinate area trees for Illinois orchards
Beekeeper Herb Lapp of Cambridge Wisconsin and helper Ron Murray deliver and harvest nearly 400 hives serving Southern Illinois apple and peach orchards. They lease bees from a Red Granite Wisconsin cooperative, move hives by truck, and use smoke to calm bees during loading. High fuel costs worry operators as they travel from Wisconsin to Illinois and Michigan fields in the pollination season.
