Advisers Draft Resolution to Extend ARA Lifeline
A 25 member National Advisory Committee on Area Redevelopment pressed a bus bound resolution urging Commerce Secretary Hodges to back legislation sustaining ARA. The group toured Carbondale Herrin and Bonton, praised Technical Tape, Zeigler storefronts and parks, and planned to seek White House support to fight poverty. The crisis worsens as no public facility grants remain and a $355 million ARA increase stalls in the House while Senate approval looms. The panel meets in Washington today to finalize and present the resolution.
