Zoning Panel Rejects Split Lot Trick For Dormitory
Carbondale zoning officials rejected Frank Muhichs plan to combine a separate 100 foot tract with a dormitory site to meet area requirements. City Counsel Helton advised the commission that treating the extra lot as an accessory use would not count toward lot size, preventing developers from gaming the rules. The commission had postponed action May 6 awaiting counsel input. Prosser named director of Carbondale National Bank to fill vacancy caused by Dr John S Lewis’s death. Other board members listed.

Severs Wins First Round Toward Permit
Severs won the first round in his bid for a building permit for the middle of his house. The Plan Commission voted 4 to 0 to recommend rezoning the lot at 401 Logan St to allow multifamily housing, though objections said it amounted to spot zoning. The commission noted intent to rezone southeast area for multifamily housing and that Severs has waited long for a permit. He previously sought a four apartment permit and claimed a duplex permit was issued for the building ends. He cited signed rental contracts for four sports events this fall but no permit yet. The commission urged council action by then and recommended changing the lot to an Ro zone.
