Illinois House OKs Rend Lake land acquisition funding
The Illinois House approved a $1 million appropriation to Rend Lake Conservancy District to buy land and finish plans for construction bids. The bill passes 1403 votes and heads to the Senate Appropriations Committee. District manager Howard Mendenhall warns of time limits as the session nears its end. He expects Senate passage with Gov Ketner’s support, though release hinges on new state revenue and potential federal aid. The district now owns about 7,000 of the 59,000 needed acres for a 24,600 acre lake, with funding to expand land for recreation and watershed control and to advance bid specifications.
