Kenneth L. Brooks 39 of Ava found dead in his home Saturday night in an apparent death by own action. Jackson County deputies and ambulance personnel say he died from hanging and the case remains under investigation. Funeral services set for 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wilson Funeral Home in Ava with burial in Ava Evergreen Cemetery. Brooks was a mechanic and member of the Community Gospel Lighthouse of Ava. He was born Jan 29, 1946 in Grand Tower and survived by his wife Dorothy Summers and several children, siblings, and parents.

Wrecked Car Left Undetected Seven Hours West of Du Quoin
In Illinois, 18 year old Todd Schweizer was found in his wrecked car on Illinois 152 near Beaucoup Creek bridge west of Du Quoin about 9 a.m. Sunday. He was treated at Marshall Browning Hospital for major injuries including shock. State police report the accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. after Schweizer apparently fell asleep and left the road, and that the crash was not reported for almost seven hours until another driver spotted the car.
