Sims denies drug talk in Benton courthouse hearing
State's Attorney Gerald Sims Jr. told a Benton hearing he visited the Carbondale home of alleged dealer Jack Hrvatin in the late 1970s and early 1980s but found no drug trafficking, no parties, and no drug use by him. Nancy Poland testified she saw Sims use cocaine at a 1981 wedding party and at Hrvatin's home. Sims denied both incidents and said he never suspected Hrvatin of trafficking. Poland described a wider marijuana and cocaine network in Southern Illinois with stash houses and trunk-to-trunk exchanges. See Sims, Page Five.
