Injunction limits pickets at mine site near Carmi
A preliminary injunction issued by White County Circuit Judge Henry Lewis restricts picketing near the MAPCO coal mine construction site at Carmi. It bars mass picketing, street blockages, and gatherings within 1000 feet, allows no more than four picketers per entrance, and targets actions following a May 23 gathering of about 250 people. The UMWA opposes the order but says it supports lawful informational picketing. Separately, Charles Hutson was in stable condition after a Monday auto train collision on Herrin Johnston City Road with a Burlington Northern train.

Randolph County approves tax multiplier 1.0615 with delay in bills
Illinois Department of Revenue finalized Randolph County multiplier at 1.0615 matching the tentative figure. County Clerk Charles Bernasek says he cannot estimate when tax bills will go out as the process moves to Manatron Inc. for printing after applying the multiplier to valuations. The multiplier corrects assessment inequities to about one third of real market value, based on three years of non-farm sales in qualifying townships.
