Clark Offers to Trade Places With Hostages in Tehran
Former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark told Tehran delegates he would exchange places with any of the 53 American hostages to help end the 213 day standoff. He urged trial of the deposed shah and condemned U.S. policy, saying hostages should not be punished for American actions. Clark warned he and nine other Americans attending the conference could face Justice Department charges. Iranian officials described the four day talks as a free exchange of views while denying outside observers access to hostages.
