Norman J. Doorenbos dean of SIU C Con Dale College of Science is one of five finalists for East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. He visited the campus July 16 17 for interviews with President Ronald E. Beller and faculty. Final decision expected by Sept 1. Other candidates include Victor Feisel Fred Cyphert William Newell and Thomas Moore. ETSU seeks a doctoral level administrator with research and publication background for its vice president for academic affairs role.

Steeleville Board Approves Budget Increase Under Four Percent
Steeleville village board adopted a new fiscal year budget in a special Monday meeting with a public hearing. Expenditures total 1,066,710, about 39,000 more than the prior year, funded largely by pay scale increases for city employees. SIU E Athletics in Limbo After Loss of Gym
Edwardsville AP The collapse of the inflated bubble gym at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in a recent windstorm has left athletics in limbo. An investigative committee led by Dr Jack Buck has been named to evaluate options and costs for a replacement facility while a new gym is built. The bubble, built in 1973 for 283612 dollars, lasted beyond its seven year life. A possible solution is to erect a new bubble in place of the old one, using the intact floor and locker rooms.

Anderson named acting dean of SIU C business college
Clifton R. Anderson associate dean of the College of Business and Administration at Southern Illinois University Carbondale was named acting dean of the college effective September 1. SIU C vice president John Guyon announced the decision after consulting with faculty and department chairs.
