Postal unions reach three year wage pact with boost to pay and benefits
After marathon talks led by a federal mediator, the U S Postal Service and its two largest unions agreed on a three year contract totaling about 4.8 billion dollars in pay and benefit increases. The deal caps direct pay raises at 2100 dollars per worker over three years and links bonuses to productivity benchmarks. A 20 cent first class stamp is proposed to cover costs, with 1 cent per hour raises tied to CPI increases. Ratification by the unions is required, amid lingering disputes over health and safety language.
