Utilities report more than 50 000 customers affected as severe storms cut power across Southern Illinois. CIPS and GTE crews worked overnight to restore service with 1 000 Central Illinois Public Service customers still without power. Nine line crews and six bucket trucks aided, as damage centered on fallen trees and isolated outages rather than widespread destruction.
